The Life and Career
Ettore Sottsass, a renowned Italian architect and designer, has left an indelible mark on the world of design. Born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1917 and raised in Turin, Italy, Sottsass graduated in architecture from the Turin Polytechnic in 1939.
His career took him to Milan, where he founded his own architecture and industrial design studio in 1947. Over the years, he worked across various media, creating furniture, jewelry, glass, lamps, and numerous iconic objects for the home and office.
His work won numerous international awards, including four ADI Compassi d'Oro, and his creations are displayed in permanent collections of museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
